A Cleveland Extended Family Sunset Session Full of Love, Laughter & Connection

There are some family sessions that feel less like a photoshoot and more like a really beautiful evening spent together—and this Cleveland extended family photography session was exactly that.

As a Cleveland family photographer, these are the sessions I love most. Not because everyone is perfectly posed or because every child is looking at the camera, but because you can actually feel the connection between the people in the photographs.

This family came together for an evening of family time, and we spent the golden hour outside surrounded by tall grasses, wildflowers, and that soft evening light that makes everything feel a little warmer.

And honestly? What could be better?

Extended family photos that feel like your family

Extended family sessions can sometimes feel intimidating. There are more people, more combinations, more little personalities to photograph, and usually at least one child who has absolutely no interest in following the plan. 😂

But I don’t want an extended family photography session to feel stiff or overly orchestrated.

My goal as a Cleveland extended family photographer is to give you beautiful photographs of everyone together while also making room for the relationships that happen naturally in between.

The hugs.

The little girls leaning into each other.

Grandparents wrapping their arms around their grandchildren.

The way siblings look at each other.

The laughter that happens when everyone finally stops worrying about whether they’re “doing it right.”

Those are the moments I want to photograph.

A beautiful Cleveland sunset

There is something especially magical about photographing families outside in the evening.

As the sun gets lower, the light becomes soft and warm, and the entire landscape seems to glow. For this session, the family wore a beautiful combination of blues, denim, white, and neutral tones that worked so naturally with the setting.

We wandered through the field, sat among the grasses and flowers, cuddled up together, and let the evening unfold.

The girls even picked little wildflower bouquets—which ended up being one of my favorite details from the session.

Those little details are what make photographs feel personal.

Years from now, I don’t think this family will remember whether everyone stood in exactly the right spot. They’ll remember being together.

And that’s really what family photography is about.

Photographing the people you love most

One of my favorite parts of being a Cleveland family photographer is getting to photograph families at different stages of their lives.

Extended family sessions are particularly special because they bring multiple generations together in one place.

Grandparents with their grandchildren.

Adult children with their parents.

Cousins and siblings.

The people who may not all live close enough to see each other every week—or sometimes even every year.

There’s something incredibly meaningful about documenting that.

Because children change so quickly. Grandparents change. Families grow. And the little girls who are being held and hugged in these photographs will eventually be the teenagers who tower over everyone.

Photographs give you a way to hold onto this particular version of your family.

Not just what everyone looked like, but how it felt to be together.
